Smash factor might sound like a marketing term used by club manufacturers to sell more drivers, but it’s so much more than that. Knowing what smash factor is and how to use it will help launch your drives, and playing experience, further.
Smash factor (SF) tells us how effectively you’re transferring energy from your clubhead to your ball. We get your smash factor by dividing ball speed by clubhead speed. Increased SF means longer drives. With the right equipment setup for you, you can more easily strike the ball inside the hitting zone for a higher SF.
According to TrackMan, golfers with an average swing speed of about 85mph can add 10 yards to their drives by increasing their SF by just 0.05. If you want to get set up using TrackMan and add more distance off the tee, let us know.
